Samuel S. Aldredge
One of the oldest native residents of Black township, Posey county, Ind., was born Oct. 21, 1825. His father, Samuel Aldredge, was a native of North Carolina, and Sarah, the mother, was a Tennesseean. The former died in 1870 and the latter in 1875. Our subject received as good an education as was possible under the then existing conditions, and at the age of 21, having married, began life on his own account. Patient industry and close application to business enabled Mr. Aldredge to accumulate 1,120 acres of good land, some of which he has given to his children.
Mr. Aldredge's first wife was Louisa, daugher of John and Esther Albright, of Posey County. To this union were born seven children, five sons and two daughters, of whom two sons and one daughter survive. Mrs. Louisa Aldredge died in 1887. Those of Mr. Aldredge's children who are living are, Josia, John S. and Lenora, all married. In July, 1888, Mr. Aldredge married Mrs. Eliza McCreery, widow of Robert McCreery of Mt. Vernon, and daughter of Joseph and Elizabeth A. Allender. To this union there have been no children. Mr. Aldredge has always been an unswerving democrat in politics and an honest, upright citizen.
