Rites Today

Mrs. Susie E. Maurer

Mrs. Susie E. Maurer, 85-year-old lifetime resident of White County, died Saturday at 4:35 a.m. in Carmi Township Hospital.

Mrs. Maurer, who resided on Route 1, Carmi, had been in failing health and was a patient in the hospital two weeks.

She was born June 6, 1879, in White County, the daughter of Jacob and Barbara Biekle Burkhardt. She was married in 1902 to Jacob Maurer, who died March 28, 1958.

She was a member of the Carmi Evangelical United Brethren Church.

Surviving are three sons, Raymond and Carl Maurer, both of Route 1, Carmi, and Earl Maurer, Route 2, Crossville; two daughters Mrs. John (Amelia) Stallings, Carmi, and Mrs. Loy (Esther) Fobar, Route 1, Crossville; a brother, John Burkhardt, Vincennes Indiana; 16 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Maurer was preceded in death by two sons, Clarence, at the age of six years, and Herman, when he was 11 months old.

Funeral services were conducted today at 2 p.m. from the Evangelical United Brethren Church with the Rev. Wilbur Payne officiating. Burial was in the Rieb Cemetery with the Kittinger Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
