Rites Set For Man Hit By Car
Herschel T. Felty, 62, a former resident of the Possum community south of Carmi, was dead on arrival late Sunday night at Martha Washington Hospital in Chicago from injuries received when he was struck by an automobile on the street in front of his home.
Mr. Felty, who had resided in Chicago for a number of years, was a driver for the Yellow Cab Company. He was a veteran of World War II.
He was born January 23, 1908, at Mr. Carmel, a son of Leroy and Bertha McCarty Felty.
Surviving are his widow, the former Alberta Davis; five brothers, Wellington, Ivan, Stanley, Wilbur and Lorn, and a sister, Mrs. Berneda Christian, all of Chicago.
The body has been received here by the Kittinger-Fair Funeral Home, where friends may visit from 3 until 9 p.m. Wednesday.
Funeral services will be held Thursday at 10:30 a.m. in the Kittinger-Fair Funeral Chapel, the Rev. Frank Doerner officiating. Interment will be in Big Prairie Cemetery, with military honors accorded by Carmi Post 224, American Legion, and White County Post 3851, Veterans of Foreign Wars.
