Mrs. Jennie Burris Claimed By Death
Funeral services were held Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. in the Marshall Ferry General Baptist Church for Mrs. Jennie Marie Burris, 67, widow of Jasper Burris, who died Monday at the home of her son, Fred, at 504 White Street in Carmi.
She had been in ill health since January and had been making her home with her son and daughter-in-law for the past year.
Mrs. Burris was born in White County September 1, 1884, the daughter of Amos and Harriet Rusher Files.
Officiating at the final rites was the Rev. C. E. Terrell. Burial was in Marshall Ferry cemetery with the Kittinger Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Surviving are three sons, Charles of Evansville, Indiana, and Fred and Gilbert, both of Carmi; three daughters, Mrs. Guy Burnett, Carmi, and Mrs. Harold DeLong and Mrs. Mark Frashier, both of Maunie; one brother, John Files, Poplar Bluff, Missouri; one sister, Mrs. Fred Leslie, Eureka, California; 23 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers at the services were Homer Large, John Griffith, Joe Templeton, Corbet Frashier, Robert Rhein and Harliss Bell.
Flowers were in charge of Ruby Large, Pauline Bell, Jennie Rhein, Joyce DeLong, Norma Burris, Sarah Ann Prince, Mary Sherrard, Betty DeLong, Patsy Burris, Sue Burris, Ruth Ann DeLong, Frances Duncan, Fannie Peyton, Sue Griffith, Phyllis Fishback, Cleda Benner, Lela Nelson and Frances Cleveland.
