Carmi Woman Dies Thursday

Mrs. Bertha Felty, 79, a resident for many years south of Carmi, died Thursday at 11:50 p.m. in Alexian Brothers Hospital in Chicago.

She had been in failing health and had gone to Chicago in order that her children could care for her.

Mrs. Felty was born in White County September 14, 1885, the daughter of Warren and Mariah Pitts McCarty.

Surviving are six sons, Wellington, Herschel, Ivan, Stanley, Wilbur and Loren J. Felty, all of Chicago; one daughter, Mrs. Berneda Christian, Chicago; nine grandchildren, Diane and Joan Christian and Ivan, Jr., Alvin, Arlene, Stanley, Jr., Leon, Paul and David Felty, and two great-grandchildren, Laura Gillow, age three, and Elizabeth Strecker, two years old.

The body will be returned to Carmi either tonight or early Saturday to the Kittinger Funeral Home. Funeral arrangements have not been made pending the arrival of the family from Chicago.
