Passes Away Sunday In Hospital
Harry E. Maurer, 80, a lifelong resident of White County, passed away at 8 p.m. Sunday in the Carmi Township Hospital. In failing health, Mr. Maurer had entered the hospital at noon on Saturday.
A retired farmer, Mr. Maurer lived at 518 Illinois Street in Carmi. He was born on November 17, 1882 in White County to Jacob Maurer, Sr., and Kate Ziegler Maurer. His wife, Elizabeth Bell Maurer, died December 14, 1959.
Mr. Maurer was a member of the Carmi Emmanuel Evangelical United Brethren Church.
His survivors are two sons, Arthur E. Maurer, Carmi, and Homer I. Maurer, of Collinsville; two step-daughters, Mrs. Pearl Ellis, of Carmi, and Mrs. Betty Morris, of Deerwood, California; and two sisters, Mrs. Lilly Brady and Mrs. Helen Smiley, both of Carmi. A son, Herschel Maurer, died on May 26, 1960 at Gary, Indiana. There are nine grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
The Rev. Norman Zurbrigg will officiate at funeral services on Tuesday at 1 p.m. at the Kittinger Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in the Newman Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home after 4 p.m. today.
