Maurer Survived By Six Children

John Maurer, 78, retired farmer who was found dead at his home, 505 North Sixth street, Carmi, at noon Tuesday, had been in failing health but seemed his usual self Monday night when his daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Alex Nibling, called on him.

He was the son of Jacob Maurer, Sr. and Katherine Ziegler Maurer and was born in White county August 18, 1878. He was married to Rose Burkhardt, who preceded him in death on July 17, 1955.

Mr. Maurer had lived in and near Carmi all of his life. He farmed until a few years ago and after his retirement made his home in this city. He was well liked and although of retiring disposition, had many friends.

Surviving are his son, Ernest of Enfield; five daughters, Mrs. Charles (Minnie) Foreman of Chicago; Mrs. William (Anna) Hoffman of Nashville, Indiana; Mrs. Alex (Bertha) Nibling and Mrs. Ed (Lydia) Bachman of Carmi and Mrs. Charles (Ruby) McBride of North Hollywood, California; three brothers, Jacob, Reuben and Harry Maurer, all of Carmi and two sisters, Mrs. Lillie Brady and Mrs. Helen Smiley, both of Carmi.

The body is at the Kittinger Funeral Home where friends are invited to call after 7:00 p.m. today.
