Contributed Obituary

Following is the contributed obituary:

Caroline Sturm, daughter of William and Jane Ridenour, was born October 13, 1859, in Gibson County, Indiana, and departed this life at her home in Crossville June 19, 1942.

As a small girl, she came with her parents to the state of Illinois. On October 13, 1878, she was united in marriage to George W. Sturm, to which union were born nine children, three of whom, Mrs. Zella Stein, Mrs. Sarah Hughes, and Clarence, preceded her in death. Her husband died October 11, 1932.

She united with the Bethel Methodist Church August 26, 1888, and remained a faithful member until her death, although not able to attend church for the last 16 years due to her poor health. She read her Bible faithfully and was always interested in the activities of the church.

During her years of invalidism, she carried on her devotion to her family and was cared for by her children, and they with the help of John and Eliza Treadway, who cared for her day and night, did what they could to make her life one of comfort and cheer. She always appreciated the neighbors and friends visiting her and did her best to make them feel at home and entertain in a way that was all her own.

There were a number of boys and girls of Crossville who knew her as Grandma Sturm, and they visited her and were much of her enjoyment in life.

She is survived by three sons and three daughters, Benjamin, Claude, Edgar, Mrs. Cora Slankard, Mrs. Anna Piland, and Mrs. Susan Fieber. A brother, Oscar Ridenour, lives in Lometa, Texas. There are 23 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren, and many other relatives and friends who also mourn her passing.
